FAQs
What is structural steel detailing?
Steel detailing, also know as structural steel drafting, is the production of drawings and files for steel fabrication and erection. We produce “detailed” drawings of all the steel parts of a building project such as beams, columns, stairs, ladders, braces, plates so a fabricator and can build the pieces and ship it to the jobsite so the erector can assemble the pieces into the “backbone” of a building. Modern steel detailing includes producing computer files that will work with the fabricator’s machines to drill, cut, or weld pieces together and files that list the materials and bolts required for purchasing.
Do you supply or have in-house engineering services?
No, at this time we do not supply or have an engineer on staff.
What software do you use?
We use Tekla Structures 3D software by Tremble
Is all your detailing done in-house or do you use “over seas” detailing firms?
All our work is completed inhouse by our staff trained by Sean Johnson. We feel we can better control the quality and schedule by keeping all work in one location.
What size of projects can you detail?
Most of our work is between 5 tons to 600 tons, although given proper schedule we could detail larger projects.
How long does it take?
The length of time for a project varies greatly by project. Several factors need to be considered such as current work load, size of project, complexity of project, and completeness of design drawings.
How much do you charge?
It depends on the project. Some detailers and fabricators will quote a price per ton, however we find it best to study the project and try to quote a price that is more reflective of the actual hours we feel it will take to produce all drawings and files necessary.
